Francis Museum of Modern Art

Brief
For this brief we were required to create a branding for the hypothetical Francis Museum of Modern Art. The aim of the project is to make sure that the logo design specifically is responsive so that it can be brought throughout various kinds of platforms from web to print. We had to keep in mind that when designing this responsive brand that it does not deflect it along the way.
Francis Museum of Modern Art
Francis Maloka is a successful businesswoman who always viewed art as an expression of freedom and empowerment. She is inspired by leading African artists such as Yinka Shonibare, Kudzanai Chiurai, Nandipha Mntambo, Mary Sibande, Ernest Mancoba and Dumile Feni. This was the reason why Francis Museum of Modern Art was established.

It was established in 2020 and the opening of this museum was to create a space where both a South African and international art inspired crowd could appreciate African artists and their work.
Logo
The logo was created using the acronym FMMA which is established from the name of the museum. The style of the logo is typographical and makes use of line and shape.

The concept of the logo was derived by the desire to emphasis the idea of community as a visual representation conveyed in the logo, as the museum is located in Newtown, Johannesburg, a community-lead area that appreciates art in the city. The idea of community is represented by the letter M to be stacked upon another to create a heart.
 Responsive Logo
The logo has been designed in a way so that is it responsive. It has four variations to it, beginning with a logo that has a full brand name. The second variation is also a full brand name logo, this design specifically has the name of the business to
the side which gives it a more horizontal look. The third logo variation only makes use of the acronym as a simpler look. Lastly the fourth logo variation is the heart icon alone that is pulled fromthe original logo.

Colours
The brand makes use of fun bright colours to portray FMMA as a brand that is welcoming as it is inspired by the concept
of community. The bright colours makes use of a transparency mode in order to create two additional colour. The combination of pink and yellow creates an orange shade and the combination of the blue and yellow makes a green shade.
